The love of C. S. Lewis

The play set in a constellation of sculpture, music & mime. Visy Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse, July-August, 2010.

C. S. Lewis (1898-1963) is one of Time Magazine¡¯s 100 most influential people of the twentieth century. This Oxford and Cambridge Academic (Medieval English Literature) and close friend of J. R. R. Tolkien ¡°reluctantly¡± converted to Christianity. He became a writer of children¡¯s fantasies (particularly The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and The Chronicles of Narnia), a Christian apologist and a comforting radio broadcaster during World War II. His well-known works include The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, The Allegory of Love ?and Surprised by Joy. Lewis¡¯s commentaries on Milton are still regarded as definitive. It is of interest that he is most remembered for his writings on ¡°side interests¡± rather than his area of expertise. Marrying divorcee Joy Davidman brought him late love, grief and a crisis of faith.

William Nicholson (Playwright) (b. 1948) worked as a director of documentaries for the BBC before turning to feature films. As a writer from a very young age, his large output includes children¡¯s fantasy novels, plays and screenplays.
